The initial PokerStars Australia-New Zealand Poker Tour stop in Sydney, Australia, attracted 493 players to the $2,000+$200 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event at Star City Casino and created a prize pool worth $986,000. The top 45 players walked away with prize money, and all 26 players returning on the final day would leave with at least $6,902, with $246,500 going to the champion. It took four hours of play for the final 26 to shrink down to a final table of nine. Here is the seating chart at the start of the final table, with chip counts:

Zhao Xin was the first to fall at the final table in ninth place ($16,762) before the dinner break. His A-10 ran into jacks and he was unable to come from behind to survive. Lisa Walsh then eliminated two players in a row. She knocked out James Newhan in eighth place ($24,650) with pocket kings, and then she busted Joel Dodds in seventh place ($34,510) when she spiked an ace on the flop with A-J in the hole.
The most well-known player was the next to fall when Billy “The Croc” Argyros had his kings cracked by queens up. He was eliminated in sixth place and took home $44,370 in prize money. Walsh then continued her rush by taking down a pot worth 4.6 million against Majed Haddad, which left him crippled. Haddad was eliminated in fifth place ($55,709) a short time later when he was forced to move all in on a short stack with 6-5 suited.
Walsh scored her third knockout at the final table when her pocket threes won a race against the A-K of Chris Kittos. Kittos was eliminated in fourth place ($69,020) and action was down to three players. Walsh found herself in an all-in situation once again a few hands later, and this time she held the A-K. John Caridid held A-8, and the board ran out 10-3-2-7-J. This gave Walsh 4.1 million to take into the heads-up match against Paren Arzoomanian and his 5.6 million.
Walsh was able to take the chip lead briefly in the final match, but she fell back behind and eventually found her stack getting short. On the final hand, she moved all in preflop with K 9. Arzoomanian made the call with A 5 and the board was dealt J 8 8 5 A to decide the tournament. Walsh was eliminated in second place, and she took home $162,690 in prize money. Arzoomanian was the champion of the very first ANZPT Sydney main event, and he took home the $246,500 first-place prize.

The Australian Poker Tour returns to the stunning Bankstown Sports Club from the 23rd to the 26th of May. We have a massive 4 day event planned where the schedule promises something for everyone. This time there is a whopping $300,000+ Series Guarantee, our largest to date, there will be buy-ins ranging from $50 to $2,500!! Our Main Event features a $100,000 G’tee with only a $175 buy in. We have a $75,000 guarantee for the High Roller Event plus there is another $100,000 guaranteed for the GRIND Event that has an $1,150 buy-in. A new addition will be the Head-Up Championship plus there is so much more.So you can have a taste of what’s in store for you in May, we will give you a brief run down on some of the 17 events being held over the 4 days.Let’s start with the Main Event. Even though it is event #3 on the schedule, the APT Main Event is such good value with a buy-in of $175 and now has a guaranteed prize pool of $100,000! This event has always drawn good numbers and generally this event attracts on average 750 entries, however at our last event we had a record 1,002 entries for a prize pool of $150,300*. In May this event will have 4 flights, one on Thursday, 2 Friday and a final flight on the Saturday night. For the value this event is a must play.To change things up we have event #2 The Players Championship. For those players wanting the bigger buy-in we will be introducing this event in Sydney. It runs over 2 days and has a buy-in of $2,500. No doubt there will be plenty of interest for this event as it will attract quite a juicy prize pool.For the Omaha fans we have on day one our PLO event, $225 buy-in and it has dealers. This will certainly give players more hands and PLO is always fun fun fun.Events such as the High Roller and formerly the Super High Roller, now renamed as “The Grind”, will have a $75,000 and a $100,000 guarantee respectively. Both these events have great structures and will have dealers. Going by the turnout on the Gold Coast last week both of these events practically doubled their guarantees, I have a feeling we may see something similar in Sydney.The 6 Max event is also gaining popularity since we placed it on our schedule. $550 buy-in, dealers supplied, 1/2 BB Ante and now with a Shot Clock. Last event saw a prize pool of a little over $22k. We have moved this event to Saturday night to suit demand.Event #9 has been a work in progress and we now have a formula that works well and it is such a fun event, is the LCA Poker National Teams event, see more here . On the Gold Coast last month we had a massive field of 295 players representing 59 teams and drawing a prize pool of just over $18k, players in a team of 5 get to play for an individual prize pool as well as a team prize pool. Players will only play their own stacks while they battle it out to last as long as possible while also eliminating the opposition to earn their share of the prize pool. More details to come, but for now we encourage you to get together a team of 5 players to play this event. Talk to your mates, poker buddies, local poker league friends, sports team mates maybe even your boss to get a team together. Call your team whatever you want and see if you can beat the back to back champions from LCA Poker.Another new event on our schedule for the first time will be the APT Heads-Up Championship, with Shot-Clock. This will be played on Sunday, the buy-in is $225 and we encourage players that are keen to play this event to register early as it will be maxed out at 32 players.There will also be 2 chances to win 1 of 3 minimum guaranteed packages to China with the APT International Team.Plenty of other games are on the schedule, plenty of fun to be had and of course plenty of money to be won with over $300,000 on offer at Bankstown Sports in May.
